(Photo by Rob Carr/Getty Images)The ongoing saga for Nick Cross is finally over as the potential-packed safety has finally decided where he’ll play collegiate football. After committing to Florida State early in his recruitment process, it turns out that he’ll actually flip his commitment elsewhere.Cross is now heading to Maryland to play for Mike Locksley. He’ll immediately bolster the recruiting class for the Terrapins, which currently features 17 total signees.Alabama, Auburn and Florida were also in pursuit of the four-star recruit, but the appeal of playing for his hometown team outweighed all other pros.Maryland officially announced the move on Twitter that Cross will play for the Terrapins in 2019. After all, his high school in DeMatha Catholic is across the street from the university.Last year was filled with controversy and drama for the Terrapins, but this upcoming season looks quite promising for Maryland. The news of this flipped commitment should provide a sense of optimism for the Terrapins, as it is clear that Mike Locksley is trying to establish a winning culture in his first season back in College Park.last_img read more

Video: UL Monroe Loses To Florida State On Missed Extra Point

first_imgMeeks was 9-for-9 on extra points on the year to that point. You can hear the dismay in the voices of ACC Network announcers Chris Cotter and Mark Herzlich. While it is a win in the books for Florida State, it is hard to call this a great result for the Seminoles or embattled head coach Willie Taggart. The man trusted with turning around a program that had become stagnant under Jimbo Fisher went 5-7 last season. The season got off to an optimistic start in Week 1, when Florida State jumped out to a big lead over Group of Five power Boise State. Of course, the ‘Noles were shut out in the second half, and lost 36-31.Now, they needed a blown extra point to guarantee overtime survival against ULM.Taggart probably isn’t getting fired after a Week 2 win, but it is hard to imagine a seat getting much hotter than the one he is on right now,w and that has only gotten worse with this week’s game. ACC NetworkThe Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks have a history of upsetting college football powerhouses. Florida State came about as close as possible to becoming that next victim. Unfortunately, disaster struck for Warhawks kicker Jacob Meeks. The sophomore, in his first year in the role, missed the extra point.Heartbreak for UL Monroe. This missed extra point in overtime gives Florida State the win as the Warhawks come up just short in their upset bid. pic.twitter.com/EagedotvkH— CBS Sports HQ (@CBSSportsHQ) September 8, 2019 Back in 2007, ULM knocked off Alabama, in its first season under Nick Saban. Five years later, the Warhawks upset No. 8 Arkansas.Tonight, Florida State and ULM traded scores, eventually going to overtime tied at 38. Florida State had the ball first, scoring a touchdown with star running back Cam Akers.Monroe quickly answered. Quarterback Caleb Evans hit on a 20-yard completion, and ran it in for what looked like the game-tying touchdown two plays later.last_img read more

Buffalo Punter Who Suffered Gruesome Injury Shares Promising Update

first_imgMedical staff treats Buffalo punter Evan Finegan after brutal injury.STATE COLLEGE, PA – SEPTEMBER 07: Evan Finegan #40 of the Buffalo Bulls is attended to by the training staff after breaking his leg against the Penn State Nittany Lions during the second half at Beaver Stadium on September 07, 2019 in State College, Pennsylvania. (Photo by Scott Taetsch/Getty Images)During a Week 2 game between Buffalo and Penn State, Bulls punter Evan Finegan suffered one of the most gruesome injuries we’ve seen this fall. Luckily, he is on the mend.Finegan snapped his leg when Nittany Lions running back Journey Brown flew in on an attempt to block his punt. He was carted off the field and treated at a facility near Penn State. After the game, James Franklin personally visited Finegan, a gesture the Buffalo punter really appreciated. This morning, he took a big step forward in his recovery, literally.Just weeks after surgery, Finegan was back on the sideline at UB Stadum, and able to take some steps. First day back walking! God is good! pic.twitter.com/3Fmih3OZlw— Evan Finegan (@efinegan40) September 24, 2019Finegan, a sophomore out of Michigan, was in his second year as punter for Buffalo, and was coming off of a strong freshman campaign, in which he averaged just under 42 yards per kick.Because this game came in Week 2, Finegan should be able to retain his eligibility for this season, and have another three to kick in college. Hopefully he’s able to get back for next season.Buffalo lost that game at Penn State 45-13, but has had an up and down season overall. The Bulls fell to Liberty the following week, but just beat Temple, which was coming off an upset win over Maryland, 38-22.One has to imagine the Bulls will have Evan Finegan in their thoughts the rest of the way, as they look to get back to the MAC title game.last_img read more
