(Photo by Bill Stockland) Share PENSACOLA, Fla. – The top-seeded University of West Florida men’s tennis team will face No. 5 seed Valdosta State in the NCAA DII South Regional Finals on Sunday, May 4 at 1 p.m. CT at the Ralph “Skeeter” Carson Tennis Complex. No. 1-ranked West Florida (24-0, 8-0 GSC) defeated VSU 5-0 at home on March 30 of this season, and will face the Blazers for a second time this season at home today.With a win, UWF would advance to the NCAA Division II Championships in Altamonte Springs, Fla. May 14-17.Match Notes: NCAA DII South RegionalsWEST FLORIDA TO HOST NCAA SOUTH REGIONALThe Intercollegiate Tennis Association No. 1-ranked West Florida men’s tennis team was selected to host an NCAA South Regional for the third consecutive season as announced by the NCAA Selection Committee. The Argonauts (24-0, 15-0 South Region) were chosen as the No. 1 seed and will host No. 4 West Alabama and No. 5 Valdosta State May 3-4 at the Ralph “Skeeter” Carson Tennis Complex.ARGONAUTS WIN THIRD CONSECUTIVE GSC TITLEThe No. 1-ranked and top-seeded University of West Florida men’s tennis team defeated No. 2-seed West Alabama 5-1 en route to the program’s 11th Gulf South Conference championship. West Florida (24-0, 8-0 GSC) won its third consecutive conference championship and extends its winning streak to 24.150 CAREER WINS FOR SAVISenior Bruno Savi (Santana do Livramento, Brazil) won his 150th career match at West Florida in the win. Savi has now won 76 career singles matches and 75 career doubles matches.SAVI NAMED GSC POY FOR THIRD STRAIGHT YEARNo. 1-ranked Savi earned his third-consecutive GSC Player of the Year honor after leading the Argonauts to their third consecutive GSC title. Savi is undefeated in singles play (21-0) this season and is 12-1 at doubles. The senior was a unanimous selection for the award. Savi was also selected to the All-GSC Men’s Tennis Team for the third time.PEYROT TABBED AS GSC FRESHMAN OF THE YEARNo. 9-ranked Alex Peyrot (Castelnaudary, France) was named GSC Freshman of the Year after posting a 16-0 record in singles play this season sharing time at Nos. 2 and 3 singles. Peyrot is the first GSC Freshman of the Year for UWF since 2010 when Leandro Ferreira earned the award. Peyrot was also selected to the All-GSC Men’s Tennis Team.GSC COACH OF THE YEARHead coach Derrick Racine earns his third-consecutive GSC Coach of the Year award after leading the undefeated No. 1-ranked Argonauts to their third straight GSC Title. Racine is the first coach to three-peat since current VSU Head Coach John Hansen accomplished the feat from 1995-1997. The honor is Racine’s eighth of his career dating back to 1999, which is three shy of Hansen’s 11 awards.
