West Florida Falls to Montevallo in Closing Minutes

first_imgWest Florida Falls to Montevallo in Closing Minutes Share Chris Brown (photo courtesy of John Blackie) center_img MONTEVALLO, Ala. — The West Florida men’s basketball team was unable to hold off a late surge by the University of Montevallo as they fell 79-69 Thursday night, dropping them to 1-3 in Gulf South Conference action.  The men played a tough game, led by Ryan Henry who dropped a team high 19 points followed by Chris Brown who put up 13.Henry, the leading scorer for the Argos with 19 points was 7-16 from the field and 5-12 from behind the arc.  The second leading scorer for the Argos, Brown, was 3-9 from the field and 1-4 from three point range while also adding six points from the free throw line. As a team the Argos shot 38.7 percent from the field, knocking down 24-of-62. The Falcons outshot the Argos by 10 percent shooting close to 50 percent from the field at 48.3 percent.The Argonauts controlled much of the first half, leading by as much as seven.  The Argos would surrender the lead to the Falcons for the first time with five minutes remaining in the first half.  The rest of the game seemed like a back-and-fourth chess match, with either offense able to pull away.  With less than three minutes remaining the Argos got within five but were unable to come up with the clutch shot they needed.Montevallo was led by Freddy Little who led all scorers with 24 points.  Little was 8-13 from the floor and 6-10 from behind the arc while also adding two points from the charity strip.The Argos will return home this Sunday at 4pm CT to face the University of West Alabama.  This game will serve as the promotional “white out” game for both the men and women’s basketball games.For more information on Argonaut athletics or to follow along with live stats, fans can keep up with the action at www.GoArgos.com.Print Friendly Versionlast_img
