Manchester United 4-0 Everton: Jose Mourinho’s stars rated and slated
14 14 Antonio Valencia – 9 – An absolute belter of a goal within four minutes and a magical way to start the game. Valencia’s start to the season has been highly impressive. David de Gea – 8 – click the arrow above, right, to see all the remaining player ratings – The United goalkeeper may as well have pulled up a deckchair for the first half as he had very little to do. However, he was on hand to make two crucial stops in the second – from Rooney and Sigurdsson – outlining his expert credentials. Substitute: Anthony Martial – 8 – For someone who came on in the 87th minute that was a pretty good performance. Won a penalty before converting from the spot to seal United’s fourth. Is Martial now Mr Super-Sub? 14 14 14 Romelu Lukaku – 8 – Eventually found the net late on after missing a golden chance in the first half. Strength and running power for United – something Everton were missing. 14 Phil Jones – 7 – Largely dependable in the back line for United as the Englishman continues to get regular game time under Mourinho. He doesn’t look graceful but he gets the job done. 14 14 Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 7 – Grabbed the second goal to effectively seal the result after Williams committed defensive suicide. A key creator but he can be capable of more. 14 14 Juan Mata – 6 – Struck the woodwork from a free kick but wasn’t particularly outstanding today as United’s attack largely floundered. 14 14 Ashley Young – 7 – Surprisingly good at left-back, no matter how strange that may sound. Kept Darmian on the bench and provided important width and crossing ability without looking defensively suspect. Eric Bailly – 6 – A decent performance from the Manchester United central defender though Everton perhaps had too much of look in for his liking. 14 14 It wasn’t particularly pretty but Manchester United got the job done against Everton at Old Trafford – despite the convincing look to the scoreline. As the saying goes a sign of a good team is being able to win without playing well and United’s 4-0 victory on Sunday definitely falls into that category.MATCH REPORT: Manchester United 4-0 Everton: Red Devils rout Toffees despite lacklustre performanceAntonio Valencia’s early wonder strike handed the Red Devils the advantage but the attack looked largely lethargic – the absent Paul Pogba was missed. However, Ashley Williams’ mistake within the last ten minutes allowed the home side in on goal and Henrikh Mkhitaryan made no mistake in finishing the job off.Romelu Lukaku then prodded home the third from close range with just a couple of minutes to go before Anthony Martial added a fourth from the penalty spot.So how did we rate each player’s individual performance? Scroll through the gallery above to take a look at talkSPORT’s Manchester United ratings. Nemanja Matic – 7 – Performs his role as the midfield enforcer very well and it was no different today. Breaks up the play and his passing sets others on their way. Was also the man to provide the assist for Valencia’s wonderful opener. Marcus Rashford – 5 – It was a poor day at the races for the England man as he was largely shackled by Martina. Should consider it a learning experience as he was subbed off for Jesse Lingard after an hour. Marouane Fellaini – 6 – Got the nod from the start to fill the void of the vacant Pogba. Fellaini, however, is a very different type of player and doesn’t provide the dynamism in the centre of the park. Substitute: Ander Herrera – 6 – Many expected the Spaniard to start but instead he was consigned to the bench. Subbed on for Mata with 15 minutes to go and did his job without anything to spectacular. Substitute: Jesse Lingard – 6 – Handed half an hour on the pitch but didn’t offer too much. Lingard tries hard but wayward shooting meant the overall output was low.
