Michael Savedra, 51, of Whittier was booked on suspicion of brandishing a weapon and making terrorist threats, said Jason Zuhlke of the Whittier Police Department. Monday’s roadside dispute got ugly when Savedra allegedly threw an unknown object at the motorist and threatened to shoot his children, Zuhlke said. The man, whose wife was also in the car, followed the truck and called Whittier police. WHITTIER – A man who picked up a pack of breath mints in a drugstore before approaching the cashier pulled out a handgun and demanded cash when he saw that the cash register was open, Whittier police said Tuesday. The robbery occurred at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the CVS Pharmacy, 11426 Washington Blvd., said Jason Zuhlke of the Whittier Police Department. The man grabbed the contents of the register and ran off with an undetermined amount of cash, Zuhlke said. He fled in a gold or tan Ford Taurus with a tinted rear window, chrome rims, and a license plate similar to 3WDD455. The suspect was about 30 years old and 160 pounds with short dark hair. Savedra was picked up on Excelsior Drive and taken into custody when backup units arrived. VFW post to host dinner fundraiser SANTA FE SPRINGS – Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3752, 11912 Rivera Road, will hold a steak dinner from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday to raise funds for veterans. Staff from the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk’s Office will assist those who wish to register from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Oct. 10-23.
