Palm Beach County Pre-Summer Food Service Program Expands

Anthony Branch Library, 375 SW 2nd Ave., South Bay In addition to distribution sites in West Palm Beach, Greenacres, Belle Glade, Pahokee and South Bay, beginning May 12, meals will be available in Lake Worth and Boca Raton. The Pre-Summer Food Service Program operated by the Palm Beach County Youth Services Department in partnership with the Library System has added two new locations. Highridge Family Center, 4200 N. Australian Ave., West Palm Beach New Tuesday Distribution:center_img Loula V. York Branch Library, 525 Bacom Point Road, Pahokee Main Library, 3650 Summit Blvd, West Palm Beach Parents picking up kits without their child present must bring identification for the child. Acceptable forms include student ID, child’s passport or other government-issued ID, birth certificate, adoption decree, immunization records, and school demographics. Meal kits will not be provided to parents who do not bring their child or do not provide proper identification. Proper safety measures must be practiced. The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) ensures that school-aged children, 18 years and under, continue to receive nutritious meals beyond the school year and during the summer months (June – August) as well as times of emergency school closures. Belle Glade Branch Library, 725 NW 4th Street, Belle Glade Lantana Road Branch Library, 4020 Lantana Road, Lake Worth Meals are distributed on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until all meal kits are distributed. Each eligible child receives a week’s worth of meals. Currently, the pre-summer feeding sites will be distributing food once per week through Wednesday, May 27. last_img read more

first_img Share Jamar Moore tipped in the winning basket at the buzzer to propel the Argos to 77-75 win (Photo by Jim Hogue) Argos Win Season Opener on Overtime Buzzer Beatercenter_img NICEVILLE, Fla. – The West Florida men’s basketball team won their season opener 77-75 on a buzzer beater in overtime at the Tom Thumb GSC/SSC crossover Friday after noon.  Jamar Moore (Coolidge, Ga./Faulkner State CC) was in the right place at the right time to tip in the game-winning shot and send UWF home with the season-opening win.Moore led the Argonauts with 23 points off the bench, shooting 7-14 from the field and 9-12 from the free throw line.  The junior also led the team with seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.  Marquis Mathis (Columbus, Ohio/Cincinnati State CC) added 19 points and was 7-8 from the charity stripe.The Argos came out hot mounting a 10 point run taking the lead 15-3 5:30 into the game. Half way through the first half West Florida was shooting 70 percent from the field. Moore led UWF in the first half scoring 10 points with three rebounds and was a perfect 6-6 from the line. The Argos went into the half with a comfortable 12 point lead, 39-27, and the Argos had 12 points on turnovers in the first half.In the second half Lynn’s offense ignited and outscored the Argos 42-30. Lynn went on a seven point run with under four minutes left in regulation and continued to tack away and took a two point lead with 1:39 left in regulation The Fighting Knights overcame a 14 point deficit, the Argos biggest lead of the game. Peter Connole (Orlando, Fla./Pine Castle Christian Academy) scored the tying goal, 69-69, on a set play from the baseline with just 14 seconds left, sending the teams to overtime.In overtime there were three lead changes with neither team able to gain an edge. With three seconds remaining in overtime the teams were deadlocked at 75. West Florida lobbed their inbound pass from the baseline to the front of the rim and Moore elevated above the crowd to tip in the game winner as the buzzer sounded.The Argos shot 51 percent from the field and did not attempt a single three point shot in their 77-75 victory over the Fighting Knights. Man injured in car-to-car Van Nuys shooting

The unidentified man, who refused to go to the hospital for his injuries, was driving down Woodley between Victory and Vanowen with his 16-year old cousin about 8:30 p.m. Sunday. The driver of a lime green Ford focus, filled with three other men with shaved heads, spotted the two and made a U-turn. Apparently both men had been involved in a prior altercation. Somebody from the Focus shot three times. Sgt. Blaine Blackstone of the LAPD Van Nuys division said it could be gang-related, but the injured man said he was not in a gang. last_img read more
